6 Steps to Healthier Hair
If you really think about it for a moment, your hair goes through so much! All the blow drying and hot tools, all the shampoos, the sun exposure, water pools, brushing, teasing, hair spray and not to mention other chemicals such as colors, lighteners and perms. WOW!
Your poor hair goes through all that, so you can look your best at any given time. Have you ever stopped to think of how do you really treat it? And do you really care for it as much as you should? What if you lost it all tomorrow because of failing to maintain it properly? That would a catastrophe wouldn’t it?
Not to worry! Follow these 6 simple steps, and all will be just fine:
1. Eat well
Just like healthy skin, healthy hair begins on the inside with what you eat and drink. A well balanced diet is crucial, as well as plenty of water. Keep your focus on Low Fat, Low Sodium, Low Sugar, High protein, High Healthy fats (omegas), High Fiber, AND lots of fruits and veggies (at least 2-4 servings a day of both fruits and veggies)
Shiny, strong hair and speedier growth are benefits you can look forward to when eating foods full of antioxidants, such as blueberries, tomatoes and broccoli, as well as fish oils and protein. Hair is pure protein and needs to be replenished, so a diet rich in protein will better the health of your hair.

3. Be gentle
Ripping out hair elastics, brushing wet hair and being too harsh when de-tangling knots can all lead to damage and broken ends – literally splitting your hair. Avoid the rough towel drying. wrap your hair and let the towel absorb as much water.
Always comb through tangles in the shower with conditioner and a wide-tooth comb. It is highly recommended NOT to brush your hair right after shower when it’s very wet and tangled. Let it dry a bit or use a blow dryer to fasten the process, and brush when it’s almost dry.
4. Avoid frequent usage of hot tools
There are more professional hair tools on the market now than ever before. But too much of a good thing can damage your hair, especially if your are not using it properly.
Your hairdresser should be fast enough with his hot tools, therefore the exposure to the heat is minimal. When using hot tools at home, make sure you use them properly, not leaving them for too on the same spot, especially Flat Irons.
Make sure that your hot tools have temperature control.
Don’t forget to always prep your hair with a heat-protecting product prior to styling, and focus on the ends, which usually need the most damage protection.
5. Try a treatment
Think of hair treatments as facials for your hair – something you should do to repair damage and look your best.
You should use hair treatments such as deep conditioning and protein masks, as well as oils, especially on the ends.
If your hair has been through a lot, and is very dry, I recommend to use these treatment at least twice a week.

6. Trim it frequently
It’s true, getting your hair trimmed will make your hair healthier. It is obvious that hair grows from the roots and not from the ends, but even though, when trimming your hair frequently (every 6-8 weeks), you prevent hair breakage and keep it fresh.
Got curly hair? You can go less often – about three or four times a year should suffice. If you’re in the process of growing your hair out, going for a cut even a few times a year can seem like torture, but keep that in mind – the less often you go, the more noticeable the trim will be.
